Responsive Classroom

Belvedere is a Responsive Classroom School

Responsive Classroom

We embrace Responsive Classroom at Belvedere Elementary.  Responsive Classroom is a way of teaching that creates a safe, challenging, and fun environment for all children. In addition to teaching academic content, teachers also teach students positive social discourse, such as how to take turns, how to listen and talk with others respectfully, and how to work effectively within a group. Responsive Classroom practices in place are daily morning meetings, the writing of Hopes and Dreams, student and teacher created rules for each classroom, interactive modeling of specific skills students need to participate in academic and social activities, positive teacher language, collaborative problem-solving, academic choice and logical consequences.

Additionally, the IB Learner Profile outlines specific attributes each learner strives to develop and internalize. Teachers connect these attributes to the curriculum, discuss the meaning, and provide students with feedback on how they are developing each attribute.
