Title I Program

Belvedere is a National Title I Distinguished School!

About the Title I Program

Title I is a federal grant reauthorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 2001. The purpose of this legislation is "to help the neediest schools and students reach the same challenging standards expected of all children" (Public Law 107-110). The Title I grant addresses four major goals:

  1. Improve language arts strategies and skills.
  2. Develop mathematics concepts and skills.
  3. Promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  4. Encourage family involvement in the education of children.

Schools are eligible for Title I funds based on the percent of low-income students. In FCPS, the elementary schools with the highest level of poverty receive funding that is used for positions and resources to meet the needs of their students.

Belvedere was named a National Title I Distinguished School by the state education agency in Virginia in the fall of 2017. We are one of up to 100 schools throughout the country that is being nationally recognized for exceptional student achievement. The Belvedere community celebrated this achievement with a ceremony held at the school. Video coverage of this event is shown below.
